Motivation is Everything!
Motivation is everything! You can do the work of two people, but you can’t be two people. Instead, inspire the next guy (or woman). — Lee Iacocca
At the end of 2019, companies were game-ready to make 2020 the most successful year ever. Hitting the ground running in 2021, nurturing psychological safety must inspire employees as they return to brick-and-mortar structures. How can a leader get people to become “better than they think they can be?” (Invictus, 2009). Understanding diverse personalities can elevate motivation for humans.
A Few Tips:
1. Data-Driven Individualization. Invest in a powerful HRIS system to capture talent’s personalities, preferences, and choice of engagement from onboarding to performance.
2. Fan the Flame. During management and director-level meetings on MS Teams or Zoom, invite employees to share ideas to elevate the value of 1-on-1 sessions.
3. Enterprise-Wide Dot Connections. During All-Hands meetings, invite all levels of employees to share their stories of inclusion and motivation meters. For example, have they shared new ideas to motivate the team? How would a team lead inspire people to become great if they could demonstrate for a team conference for a higher-level role? What goals have they set over the next four to 12 weeks?
In the virtual world, one never knows when a leader will stand up. So, if you enjoyed this post, remember to pay it forward by sharing it with your network.
